Specialist Community Advice Services

Our aim is to provide housing related advice and support to Haringey Council residents.

Women who have signed up to receive support and advice provisions have the choice of seeing two dedicated workers, working under the supervision of the Co-ordinator.

All our advisers will offer a comprehensive support service to our clients ensuring that the most appropriate agency is involved according to the level of support ascertained through initial meetings.

All clients will, in partnership with their Key Worker, meet to discuss their initial concerns and draw up a plan. Which will be reviewed periodically.

Talk; Share and Heal

This project is supporting Turkish-speaking women already struggling to cope with the cost of living crisis; debts and poor housing or risk of homelessness; to improve their resilience; mutual assistance and mental health in the aftermath of the Turkish-Syrian earthquake. It is providing opportunities for women to support each other with their shared experiences of the tragedy and develop friendship networks which will give long-term benefit and comfort. Group therapy sessions are enabling their recovery to be guided by professional support; and individual counselling is providing more in-depth assistance tailored to each woman’s needs. Meditation sessions are enabling women to learn techniques to develop their mental strength and wellbeing to make them better able to face future challenges.

Advice and Support

This project provides a programme of workshops and drop-in sessions to improve women’s skills, capability and confidence to manage their own lives. Support and advice to Turkish-speaking women is provided in their own language on reducing or paying off debts/arears, and negotiate creditors on their behalf. We support women at risk of homelessness especially those at immediate risk of eviction by negotiating with councils, housing associations and landlords to reduce repaying housing relating debts. We aim to maximise benefits to women and their families and assist them to make new claims, online and challenge benefit sanctions where necessary. Workshops are provided i.e budgeting, housing rights, heating/energy, digital skills and digital drop-in sessions.

Rosa's Covid-19 Response Fund (Small Grants)

The aim of this project is to provide a comprehensive service to Turkish-speaking women in Haringey and other North London Boroughs to assist them in dealing with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. This includes supporting them to claim universal credit and liaise with landlords and creditors, accessing support such as food/medicine deliveries and food vouchers, translating and explaining information about the lockdown and social distancing rules, and arranging volunteer befriending calls to vulnerable clients self- isolating at home. Remotely as well as office based following the government guidelines.

Under this project, we are now able to offer short-term support service to women in North London Boroughs outside Haringey, as our main funding only covers support for clients within Haringey.

Volunteers

We believe that women are inspirational role models, but as a result of some form of oppression they have faced in their lives, they tend to undermine their own skills and experiences. Therefore, our organisation has worked hard to encourage women to actively participate in volunteering. This helps women to develop and extend their knowledge and inevitably build confidence to proceed with other life goals.
