Specialist Community Advice Services

Our aim is to provide housing related advice and support to Haringey Council residents.

Women who have signed up to receive support and advice provisions have the choice of seeing two dedicated workers, working under the supervision of the Co-ordinator.

All our advisers will offer a comprehensive support service to our clients ensuring that the most appropriate agency is involved according to the level of support ascertained through initial meetings.

All clients will, in partnership with their Key Worker, meet to discuss their initial concerns and draw up a plan. Which will be reviewed periodically.

Turkish Women’s Empowerment

The aim of this project is to offer an open session where women can drop in and provide mutual support to one another; promoting positive change and empowering one another to take strive in their individual's lives where it relates to a career change or access to training. The training will cover assertiveness, English as a second language, and on one to one basic IT and accessing social networking sessions to empower women to minimise the feeling of isolation.

We feel that these sessions will lead to women supporting each other outside the group, and therefore benefits from project will be far reaching giving women an opportunity to learn, develop and become actively involved within their communities.

COVID 19 – Emergency Funding/ Delivering Differently

TCWP was able to provide a comprehensive service to our clients through home working, with a fast and efficient referral system and the ability to work effectively as a team from dispersed locations. Secure software allowed clients to send confidential information and enable advisors to gain the permissions they needed to represent clients. The technology and equipment enabled the staff to work flexibly for the duration of the crisis.

This funding also enabled us to re-start our face-to-face consultations by making adaptations to our office environment and installing protective equipment for staff and clients to be in a safe environment.

Rosa's Covid-19 Response Fund (Small Grants)

The aim of this project is to provide a comprehensive service to Turkish-speaking women in Haringey and other North London Boroughs to assist them in dealing with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. This includes supporting them to claim universal credit and liaise with landlords and creditors, accessing support such as food/medicine deliveries and food vouchers, translating and explaining information about the lockdown and social distancing rules, and arranging volunteer befriending calls to vulnerable clients self- isolating at home. Remotely as well as office based following the government guidelines.

Under this project, we are now able to offer short-term support service to women in North London Boroughs outside Haringey, as our main funding only covers support for clients within Haringey.

Older People Project

To support and empower marginalised older people within the Turkish speaking community to improve their social, health and economic well-being and prevent isolation. We provide a weekly Luncheon Club for Turkish speaking elderly where they come to socialise and interact with each other.

Fridays: 10.30am - 1.30pm

Mental Wellbeing Support Project

The Mental Wellbeing Support Project has been supporting the provision of our ongoing advice and advocacy work, assisting Turkish-speaking women and their families who often have acute and multiple needs that have been made worse by the impact of coronavirus. We provide advice by telephone, email and face-to-face, liaise with Local Authorities and other agencies, and support clients through issues including homelessness, welfare claims and debt.

This new service has been providing additional support for women to regain confidence, improve their mental wellbeing and help them become less isolated and more resilient during the continuing coronavirus crisis. The project runs Volunteer-run telephone befriending service and weekly socially distanced activities in our COVID-19-safe premises (including coffee mornings, mindfulness and relaxation sessions, creative craft sessions and digital skills classes).

Where appropriate women will be referred to our other services for advice on subjects including money management, benefits and housing issues. Beneficiaries will also be encouraged to volunteer with TCWP if they wish, to make befriending calls, help to run our social activities and assist in our office.

Volunteers

We believe that women are inspirational role models, but as a result of some form of oppression they have faced in their lives, they tend to undermine their own skills and experiences. Therefore, our organisation has worked hard to encourage women to actively participate in volunteering. This helps women to develop and extend their knowledge and inevitably build confidence to proceed with other life goals.
